Modified Program (Middle School)
7 - 8th grade Modified athletes primarily focus on:
developing boat knowledge
improving rowing technique
learning team skills
More time is spent on fine tuning rowing stroke skills and developing as athletes; however, Modified Rowers do compete in scrimmages, in select regattas, and the beloved end-of-season “Mod Championships” regatta.
7th-8th grade Novices (new rowers) are able to join the Modified program seamlessly due to the elementary components of the program.
Freshman and Varsity Program
The Freshman and Varsity Program has a higher level of commitment than the Modified Program due to the level of competition required. Freshman and Varsity athletes typically compete in an average of 5 regattas during the Fall and Spring seasons. Rowers at these levels are expected to:
Attend practice Mondays-Fridays
Be motivated to improve as athletes
Practice being good members of a diverse team
Novices (new rowers) are held to the same principles as returning Freshman/Varsity rowers, but may not compete until appropriately prepared to race.
